Alaïa Relaunches Their Iconic Design

Maison Alaïa has taken a dip back into their archives and vast treasure trove of memories to find inspiration for their Summer 2019 capsule collection, “Mon coeur est à Papa.” The title, meaning “My heart belongs to Daddy” is a reference to designer, Azzedine Alaïa’s close paternal friendships with his models, many of whom grew up on his runway and in his atelier. The connections grew to be so deep that Alaïa preferred to refer to his community as “extended family.” Naomi Campbell, with whom he was especially close notes, “We would all fly into Paris just for Papa’s shows. We all wanted to work for him. To be a part of his unique cuts and patterns was a special honor.” In homage to Alaïa’s close friendships, the designer memorialized this mutual respect by creating a ribbon and heart handwritten with “Mon coeur est à Papa” scrawled in script along it, which Naomi Campbell wore during Alaïa’s Summer 1992 runway collection.

Over twenty-five years later, Maison Alaïa is re-introducing the iconic intarsia, which resembles a tattoo, using the same handwritten phrase. The beautifully scrawled script writing will be available at 10 Corso Como New York in t-shirt form in a variety of bold colors. Also on offer is a range of dresses in Alaïa’s standard ultra feminine styles, as well as bags, scarves, pareos, and strappy-tie sandals with the design emblazoned on them. The limited edition collection will only be available this summer season until supplies last. The dresses are perfect for a warm summer date night in the city. The t-shirt and shorts separates, bags, pareos, and sandals are the perfect recipe for your jet-setting travels spent exploring foreign cities or relaxing beachside. The “Mon coeur est à Papa” collection is not only chic, but is a rebirth of an iconic moment in fashion history, creating pieces with a story. We are already mentally packing for our warm summer travels, Alaïa in tow.
